Frequently Asked Questions

A hackathon is an invention marathon where students come together to learn, build, and share their creations—usually over 24–36 hours. It's open to anyone interested in technology, not just programmers.

Anyone! Our hackathon welcome students from all backgrounds—whether you're a developer, designer, writer, or just curious to learn and collaborate.

Students develop both technical and soft skills, build projects from scratch, gain industry mentorship, and often end the weekend with a portfolio-worthy product. Some projects may even become full startups.

Hackathons provide self-directed, hands-on learning. Students are motivated by curiosity and creativity, learning to solve real-world problems as they arise, often working through the night to finish their ideas.

Yes—but they’re friendly competitions. Students present their projects to judges for prizes, but the focus remains on learning, innovation, and collaboration.

Many students continue refining their projects, attend more hackathons, or even launch startups. The hackathon experience stays with them, often influencing their academic and career paths.

Not at all! Our hackathon offer workshops, beginner tracks, and mentors to help first-time participants learn and succeed.

You will need to bring a laptop, charger, bedding, and some creavity! If your laptop does not have an HDMI port you'll need to get an HDMI converter for your machine to be able to connect to our projectors. We'll provide everything else, such as food and drinks.

The check in for the event starts at 4pm on Friday October 17th. The event is held in Plaster Hall of Business on the Missouri Southern State University campus.
